I write to tell you how deeply saddened I am at Austin’s passing. He was a superstar in our department while he was here and will be sorely missed. Austin definitely made his mark in my memory the year I had him in AP Biology. I can still clearly picture him sitting at the front of the room, deeply engaged every single day, but always with a smile on his face. He sat right next to Ari, and each class brought a new set of fresh comments, debate about the more subtle points, and gentle corrections for me if I misspoke. His curiosity and eagerness to know it all was truly impressive. He made our class better and made me feel lucky to be a teacher. I also admired his gentle nature, his kindness and sincerity. The image of his smiling face and the kindness in his eyes is what I remember the most.
My thoughts and heart are with you at this most difficult time.
Sincerely,
Miranda Fleig
