My son, David, was Austin's roommate his 1st year at UChicago. Austin came across with the type of genuine personality and intellect that made my wife and I feel at ease that David would have the proper guidance, friendship, and support to be successful away from home. Every single encounter with Austin that followed cemented that impression even more. Even though our encounters were brief, discussions with Austin spanned topics ranging across science, religion, politics, to life in general, clearly demonstrating how bright and engaging an individual was Austin.
The image of Austin forever etched in my memory is that of him leaning over the laptop at his desk, working with the molecular model kit, and all the while conversing with David, my wife and I in the dorm room.
I'd like to extend my deepest sympathy to Austin's family for their loss.
Respectfully,Joe Goldfeld
