I was Austin's preschool teacher. His uniquness and LOVE of learning was evident even then. I got my weather report from him each day in preschool. He was easily as informed as Tom Skilling ever was! When I heard the name Austin LaPore on the news, I thought, "could that be my Austin" but I dismissed it. For one thing, how could that cute four year old be in college? And second, they had moved to New Mexico, what were the odds he would end up back in Chicago. Today I saw the picture of Gregg and Laurie in the Chicago Tribue and I realized immediately and sadly, it was my Austin.
We lost touch sooner than I'd hoped after you moved to New Mexico. When you left we talked about, and I fully intended to visit sometime. But the years have marched on.
So to you, Laurie and Gregg I send my heartfelt sympathy and love. How glad I am to have know this remarkable young boy when life was laid out in front of him in all its possibilities.
Peace to his memory.
