I first met Austin during an orientation for middle school at Albuquerque Academy. I happened to get in a conversation with Austin and his dad, Gregg, and found out that they were race car enthusiasts like my son Jeremy Aspin Schofield. As a mom who was very nervous about her son's first year at a different school, I quickly pulled Austin over to meet Jer. They made fast friends and stayed friends throughout middle school and high school. For the first sleep-over Jeremy had at our house with his new friends Austin was, of course, one of them. The next morning I heard the boys up and excitedly talking. They weren't discussing the latest video games or involved in trash talk. The boys were discussing science and theories as I rubber-necked in on the conversation outside Jer's bedroom door. It made me smile. As the morning wore on I talked with the boys about going with me and Jer to do something like miniature golf. Austin was adamant that it was time to go as he said he wanted to be back with his family. That spoke volumes to me about the wonderful home life he had. Thank you Austin for making an impact on me and my family.
